Giving Funds

Before you start

Donors can only use their Giving Funds on your GoFundMe Nonprofit Page or a GoFundMe fundraiser.

Through Giving Funds, GoFundMe Pro customers can reach a growing market of engaged donors through a new, more accessible donor-advised fund (DAF). Unlike traditional DAFs, Giving Funds was designed to reach a wider donor audience, help them discover nonprofits and the causes they care about, and maximize their contributions. That means a growing pool of funded donors can find and support your organization while you get the data you need to nurture those donors over time.

All nonprofit organizations on GoFundMe can receive Giving Funds donations. To access the data on those donations, all you need to do is claim your Nonprofit Page on GoFundMe.

Giving Funds payments and data

If you receive Giving Funds donations, payments will be sent to you either via ACH direct deposit or by check to the address on file with the IRS. You will receive your payment within a week of the processing date.

We recommend confirming that your organization’s mailing address and email are up to date with the IRS. If you’re not sure, email our team with your organization’s name and EIN so we can investigate for you.

Access data

If you’ve claimed your Nonprofit Page, you can access Giving Funds donor data in your GoFundMe Pro account. To do so, select GoFundMe Channel in your account menu, and then select the Donations report. On the report, apply an advanced filter on the Transaction Type field equal to GoFundMe Giving Fund to see all donations made with Giving Funds.

Note: Donors can give anonymously, so some donations in the report won’t have any identifying information.

Each month, we’ll also email you a summary of any Giving Funds donations you’ve received from the previous month. If you believe a donation may have been made to your organization but you haven’t received confirmation, try checking your spam or junk folders for any emails from GoFundMe Giving Fund.

FAQ

Why isn’t our nonprofit showing up as a donation option through the GoFundMe Giving Fund?

GoFundMe Giving Fund (GFGF) is a 501(c)(3) public charity that manages donor-advised funds in compliance with IRS regulations. To protect donors and nonprofits alike, GFGF is required to follow specific eligibility rules when approving grant recommendations.

Here are a few common reasons your organization may not be showing up:

  • Your organization is not listed as a 501(c)(3) public charity in good standing. GFGF can only approve grants to U.S.-based organizations that are officially recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity. If your organization is classified as a private foundation, or your IRS status is revoked, under review, or inactive, it will not appear in the list of eligible recipients.
  • Your organization is not currently in our nonprofit database. If your organization is newly formed, recently changed its name, or hasn’t yet been added to the database, it might not show up in search results.
  • Your organization is not based in the U.S. At this time, grants from GoFundMe Giving Fund can only be made to U.S.-based 501(c)(3) public charities. International nonprofits are not currently eligible to receive DAF grants.

If your organization meets the above criteria and is still not appearing in search results, we’d love to help. Please email us with the following details:

  • Your organization’s full legal name
  • Your EIN (Employer Identification Number)
  • Any relevant documentation if your tax-exempt status was recently updated

We’ll review your information and let you know if and when your organization can be added to the Giving Fund platform.

How will donors find my organization as an option for granting their Giving Funds?

Donors can search for your organization directly on GoFundMe. We will also help surface relevant organizations to donors based on their location, preference, and past giving with GoFundMe.

Can supporters use their Giving Funds account to donate to the fundraising campaign I host myself or create on GoFundMe Pro?

At this time, supporters will only be able to give to your organization through your GoFundMe hosted Nonprofit Page and GoFundMe fundraisers benefiting your nonprofit. Supporters cannot yet use Giving Funds when donating to your organization through your website or campaigns created on GoFundMe Pro.

What payment methods are available?

Donors can add to their Giving Fund with credit cards, ACH, and non-cash options. Donors can also transfer funds directly from an existing donor-advised fund into their Giving Fund with no fees.

How soon do Giving Fund donations appear in GoFundMe Pro reports?

It can take 10 days for Giving Funds to appear as we fetch funds.

Can donors contribute stock to their Giving Fund?

Donors will learn about GoFundMe Giving Funds through email campaigns, social media, and influencer partnerships designed to drive awareness and engagement. Additionally, paid media, SEO content, and earned press coverage will amplify visibility, so more individuals can learn about Giving Funds and find your organization.

Do Giving Funds only attract high-net-worth individuals?

No, GoFundMe Giving Funds are designed to attract a broad range of donors of all income levels. With no administrative fees, $5 giving minimums, and a simple interface, Giving Funds are for anyone who wants an easier, more innovative way to make an impact.

Traditionally, DAFs have been held only by the wealthy, many of whom are only aware of them from their financial advisors. But we think anyone can see the appeal of DAFs because they provide a way for tax-deductible donations to have a bigger impact.
