Fundraising commitments

If this feature isn't available to you in GoFundMe Pro, contact our team to learn about adding it to your account.
Before you start

Fundraising commitments are only available on Registration with Fundraising campaigns.

Fundraising commitments let you challenge supporters to raise a specific amount by a specific date.

Turn on fundraising commitments

The first step is to turn on fundraising commitments on a Registration with Fundraising campaign.

  1. In your GoFundMe Pro account, select Campaigns
  2. Select the Registration with Fundraising campaign you want to edit
  3. Select Details
  4. Select Registrations

  1. Add the fundraising commitment amount per attendee
  2. Set the fundraising commitment deadline
  3. Select Save Changes at the bottom of the page

From here, you can continue to turn on commitments on other registrations or create new registrations with commitments.

Important: Once someone purchases a registration with a commitment, the registration can no longer be edited. But you can create a new registration with updated details at any time. If you delete a registration with a commitment, anyone who purchased the registration will still be tied to the commitment.

Free registrations

You can also add fundraising commitments to any registrations with a $0 value. To do so, create a registration and mark the checkbox to make it free. Then, turn on fundraising commitments for that registration and complete the amount and deadline.

Edit your commitment emails

Once you enable commitments, you'll want to make sure you edit the notification emails that are sent to fundraisers when their commitment statuses update.

  1. Within your campaign, select Emails and Fundraising commitment notifications
  2. Select the emails in the list to edit them

We recommend you edit each email to make sure that you reflect your brand in all your messages. For help editing emails, view our guide on using the email editor.

View your commitments

Once you turn on commitments, you can manage them from your campaign details.

  1. Select Campaigns in your GoFundMe Pro account menu
  2. Select the Registration with Fundraising campaign you want to manage
  3. Select Commitment management

From here, you can view and manage your commitments and their statuses.

Statuses

Pending agreement When someone purchases a registration with a commitment for another fundraiser, the fundraiser needs to accept the commitment to start fundraising. This status indicates the fundraiser has not accepted their fundraising commitment yet.

Commitments with this status cannot be edited. If you need to edit them, we recommend contacting the fundraiser directly to either refund the registration and waive the commitment, or have them accept the agreement.
Not achieved The fundraiser is actively fundraising but has not reached their commitment goal.

Commitments with this status can be edited.
Achieved The fundraiser has reached their commitment goal. Hooray!
Processing An admin for your account charged the fundraiser a specific amount or their remaining commitment. When the charge is done processing, the status will update again.
Payment error The payment method tied to the fundraising commitment is not working. We recommend reaching out to the fundraiser to update their payment method.
Waived An admin for your account canceled the fundraiser’s commitment and they will not be charged. Typically used when a supporter is still fundraising for the campaign but you decide they no longer need to reach their commitment. We send the fundraiser an email so they’re up to date.
Canceled An admin for your account canceled the fundraiser’s commitment and they will not be charged. Typically used when a supporter is no longer planning to attend the event or was refunded. We send the fundraiser an email so they’re up to date.

Frequently asked questions

Can I delete a supporter's fundraising page?

Yes, you can archive fundraising pages that are tied to a fundraising commitment. When you archive the page, it will automatically cancel the commitment. Learn how to archive a fundraising page.

What happens when a fundraising commitment is greater than the campaign's fundraising goal?

If a fundraising commitment is greater than the fundraising goal, the fundraiser's page goal will reflect the commitment amount rather than the default goal amount.

Does a supporter's gross or intended donation amount count towards a commitment?

The gross donation amount counts towards the commitment. You may notice a discrepancy with progress bars on the campaign since they display a donor's intended donation amount instead.

How long is the supporter's payment method saved?

The payment method added is available until you process the commitment manually. It will not expire before then.

Can supporters change their payment information for the commitment?

Yes, supporters can log in to the Supporter Center and select Manage on their fundraising page to update payment details.

Do processing fees differ for commitments?

No, processing fees are charged according to the payment method on file.

If we choose to cover transaction fees for registration purchases, does that also apply to commitments?

No. If you choose to cover transaction fees for ticket purchases, this setting only applies to the registration purchase. Commitments are separate transactions and will incur their own fees charged to the supporter.

Can supporters cover fees for fundraising commitments?

Supporters cannot opt to cover fees for commitments.
