Publish legacy campaign templates

If this feature isn't available to you in GoFundMe Pro, contact our team to learn about adding it to your account.

Use an existing campaign as a template for other campaigns with campaign templates. For example, if your organization runs similar campaigns across multiple regions or chapters, you can create a template from one campaign and lock the details, which are consistent across all of them. Then, you can use the template to create a new campaign for each region or chapter and only adjust a few details.

Before you start

This article covers templates for our legacy campaigns. If you're using our Studio campaigns, check out our guide on creating Studio templates.

Create a campaign template

To create a campaign template using an existing campaign:

  1. Select Campaigns in your account menu and then select My templates
  2. Select Legacy templates
  3. Select Create new template
  4. Enter the Template name
  5. Select the campaign type and an existing campaign from the dropdowns to import its design and email settings
  6. Select Create template

Note: The design and email settings from the existing campaign will become part of the new template, however, the details will not. For example, the Date & Time of the existing campaign will not pull to the new template.

Edit and lock Settings

Now you have a template that you and other admins can use to publish campaigns. However, you may have settings you want to lock, so they remain consistent across all campaigns published from this template. To access all of the settings, select the template and then select Edit template.

We recommend you review the Details, Pages and Email tabs to ensure you set up everything correctly and lock the settings you want to remain consistent.

Details tab

Under the Details tab, set the Date & Time, Registrations, FAQs and more. Be sure to Save your changes. Also, if you want this setting to remain consistent across campaigns, select the Lock icon to prevent changes.

Pages tab

Under the Pages tab, set up and design the pages of your campaign template. Use the Edit Pages tab to create the layout of your campaign’s pages and use the Lock Settings tab to lock in place.

The Edit Pages tab works the same as building a campaign on GoFundMe Pro.

To use the Lock Settings tab:

  1. Select Lock Settings
  2. Select a Content Block
  3. Next to the content you want to lock, select the Global Lock icon

Now, when someone creates a campaign using this template, they cannot edit the locked parts of the template.

Note: Adding a custom block like a 'Text' block automatically locks the page layout. Locked page layouts prevent campaign creators from toggling visibility, re-ordering, and adding content blocks.

Email tab

Under the Email tab, set up the emails for your campaign template. Use the Edit Pages tab to edit the emails and use the Lock Settings tab to lock in place.

The Edit Pages tab works the same as editing emails on GoFundMe Pro. Learn more about emails on GoFundMe Pro.

To use the Lock Settings tab:

  1. Select Lock Settings
  2. Select an Email category
  3. Select an Email
  4. Select Email Contact Details or Email Content
  5. Next to the detail you want to lock, select the Lock icon

Publish template

Once your details, design and email settings are ready, select Publish to publish the template. You can also select the Preview icon to see a page before you publish. After you select Publish, other admins in your organization can publish a campaign using the template.

  2. Select Legacy templates
  3. Select the template you want to share
  4. Select the Share settings tab

Frequently asked questions

I am having trouble creating a template

If you are seeing the templates tab, but you can't click the button to create a new template, then confirm your setup permissions. You'll need to have the Template Manager role OR Organization Admin access.

Can you make a copy of a template?

No, right now you cannot duplicate a template. If you run the same campaign every year, you can use one of the child campaigns attached to your current template to create your new template as a starting point.

When should I use a template vs. just creating a duplicate of a past campaign?

A campaign template is useful for large-scale campaigns where there are multiple campaign pages that have the same look and feel, or similar content where you want to control branding and content and also be able to make changes across all campaigns. Duplicating a campaign is useful when you just want one or two campaigns to look similar, but you don’t need them connected.

Should I edit the same template for my annual campaign each year or start with a new template?

We recommend starting with a fresh template. If you liked the template that you used for your previous campaign, then you can use one of the attached campaigns as a starting point to create your new template.
