Double the Donation

Before you start

Your organization needs to have an account with Double the Donation Matching. If you do not have this type of Double the Donation account, fill out this form to get in contact with a representative from their team.

Double the Donation is the industry-leading automated matching gift and workplace fundraising solution. It lets your organization identify match-eligible donors, drive matches to completion, and gain actionable matching gift insights.

Double the Donation's matching gift tools integrate directly with your GoFundMe Pro donation pages to identify match-eligible donors during the donation process. Then, Double the Donation provides a direct link to the donor’s specific matching gift submission form following their contribution. This makes it easy to drive matching gift requests to completion and double or even triple your matching gift revenue.

Set up Double the Donation

  1. In GoFundMe Pro, go to Apps & Integrations > Explore
  2. Select Double the Donation
  3. Add your public and private API keys from your Double the Donation account
  4. Select Connect 

Once you select Connect, we will verify the connection. When connected, you will see the public key, and the setup will be complete.

How to find the keys

For help finding your public and private Double the Donation keys, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to your Double the Donation account
  2. Select Settings and API keys in your menu

  1. Copy the API keys and add them to GoFundMe Pro

Important: Do not share your API key with anyone outside of the GoFundMe Pro Care team. This keeps your account and integration secure.

How it appears on a Studio donation page or embedded form

When supporters view your Studio donation page or embedded form, they'll also see an employer match checkbox. Based on your configuration settings, the search bar will either immediately appear (recommended) or will need to be toggled on by the donor. See below for more details on how to configure the search tool.

How it appears on a legacy campaign page

When supporters view one of your donation pages, they will see an employer match checkbox. When they mark the checkbox, they’ll be able to search for an employer to match their donation.

How to track the matching gifts

  1. Go to your Double the Donation account
  2. Select Donations in your menu

From there, you can see all the matching transactions processed through GoFundMe Pro. The following information is passed to Double the Donation:

  • Donation identifier
  • First and last name (from the billing section) 
  • Donation amount
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Campaign (when present)

How to see matched donations in GoFundMe Pro reporting

Based on your Double the Donation plan, you have the option to enable matched donations to appear in GoFundMe Pro Reporting. To do so, first schedule a call with the Double the Donation team so that they can turn their Promise Creation feature on for you. Double the Donation's Promise creation Feature needs to be configured with a representative of their team. Learn more about Double the Donation's Promise Creation.

Once you have met with Double the Donation's team, you can proceed with the following steps: 

  1. Log into GoFundMe Pro
  2. Select Apps & Integrations
  3. Select Double the Donation
  4. Scroll down to Additional Configuration
  5. Under GoFundMe Pro Reporting, select the checkbox
  6. Select Save

How to report on Double the Donation matches:

  1. Select Transactions in your account menu
  2. Select Transaction History
  3. Add the Channel column to the report
  4. Filter by Double the Donation

Note: If GoFundMe Pro reporting is on, you can add a filter for the Company Name. Check out our guide for more about GoFundMe Pro reports.

Additional Settings

You can customize the Double the Donation integration on each campaign. To do so:

  1. Go to your campaign page in GoFundMe Pro
  2. Select Edit
  3. Select Settings
  4. In the menu, select Donation Matching
  5. Under Employer Matching, select the features you’d like to enable/disable
  6. Select Save changes

These features let you show the employer match option on the checkout page. You can also choose to check the employer match box by default.

For Studio embedded forms, we recommend showing the checkbox by default on the checkout page, and before the donation is complete.

Frequently asked questions

Can I disconnect Double the Donation?

You can disable the extension at any time. To do so:

  1. Select Apps & Integrations in your GoFundMe Pro account menu
  2. Select Double the Donation
  3. Select Disable extension

The integration is available for all GoFundMe Pro customers located in the United States.

Is the Double the Donation integration available to organizations based in Canada?

While Double the Donation’s products themselves are available to Canadian organizations, currently, the GoFundMe Pro integration is not supported for Canadian organizations.
