Create a promo code

Promo codes let you offer supporters a discount on tickets or registrations, whether it's a set dollar amount or a percentage off. They're a great way to reward loyal supporters, fill seats for an event, or boost last-minute ticket sales.

How promo codes affect your campaign totals

When a supporter uses a promo code, the discounted price is what appears in your campaign's totals. For example, if a $100 ticket is discounted to $50, a $50 purchase will be counted toward your campaign total.

How promo codes affect fair market value

A promo code doesn't change the fair market value (tax-deductible amount) you set for a ticket or registration, even if the code is a percentage discount. If a promo code brings the price below the tax-deductible amount, the discount reduces the donation portion first, then the fair market value portion.

For example, say a ticket costs $100, and its fair market value is $40. That makes $60 of the ticket tax-deductible. If a supporter applies a $50 promo code, only $10 of their purchase stays tax-deductible.

Important: Promo codes reduce the donation portion of a purchase before they reduce the fair market value portion. Double-check the tax-deductible amount on discounted purchases so receipts stay accurate.

How promo code quantities work

The quantity limit you set is the total number of times a code can be redeemed, not a per-person or per-transaction limit.

For example, if you set a limit of 4, supporters can use the code up to 4 times total. That could mean 4 separate transactions or one transaction with 4 registrants.

Create a promo code

To create a promo code:

  1. Open your event and select Details
  2. Select Promo Codes, then Create New
  3. Fill out the Promo Code form—with the form you can:
  • Give the promo code a name. This is what supporters will enter during checkout
  • Choose whether your discount is a percentage of the cost or a specific dollar amount
  • Choose which tickets or registrations your code applies to
  • Set the promotional period for your promo code
  • Limit the number of redeemable codes or make them unlimited
  1. Select Save & Create New to save your promo code and create another one
  2. Or, you can select Save Promo to save your promo code and return to your promo code settings

Edit a promo code

  1. Select the promo code you want to edit from the Promo Code settings
  2. Make the changes you want in the editor to the right
  3. Select Save Changes to save your edits

Delete a code

You can delete a promo code using the promo code editor. However, once you delete a code, you cannot use it again within that particular campaign. A pop-up window will appear with additional information so you can confirm whether or not to delete it.

Supporter experience

It will be up to you to communicate the promo codes to your supporters. During checkout, supporters can enter the promo code after adding the qualifying ticket to their order.
