Import auction items

You can add auction items in Live Events by importing them in bulk instead of adding them individually.

Prepare the import

To add auction items in bulk, first download the import template. Then, open the file in your preferred spreadsheet software. For example, Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.

You’ll enter your auction item information into your copy. The template includes columns corresponding to the item fields from Live Events. There are samples to help you, but be sure to remove them before uploading your file.

When you’re ready to import, save your file as a CSV, XLSX, or XLS file type.

There is a maximum of 100 items per import file. Make another copy of the template to import another set of 100 items.

The import file does not support images. You will have to add those to your items after importing them.

Import the items

Once you’ve prepared your import file, you’ll import it to Live Events.

To do so:

  1. Go to Auction in Live Events
  2. Select Items
  3. Select Options and then Import Items
  4. Add your import file

Verify your data

Once you add your file, you will verify your data before finalizing the import.

  1. Select the header row from your file.
  2. If you customized any of the headers in the template, map them to the correct item fields. If you didn’t change any headers, the columns will already match the item fields.
  3. Verify your data by reviewing error messages in any highlighted cells. Select a cell to correct any data with errors.

  1. Select Submit to complete the import

Once the import is successful, you can review the imported items in the Items menu.

If any import data conflicts with your existing auction items or if there is a formatting error, you’ll be notified of additional errors that must be resolved before resubmitting.

Frequently asked questions

Can I include images when importing items?

Images are not able to be imported. After importing the items, you can edit each item to add an image.

Can I import information from existing items to update them in bulk?

No, importing items creates new auction items only and cannot be used to update/delete an existing item. If the import file contains an item that already exists (matched by item number), an error message will appear to adjust the item information.

Can I add a category with the import tool?

Yes, you can add a new item category in your import file. Adding a new category will also make it available in Live Events for future items.
