Attend a virtual event

Getting started

If the event has set up the Networking feature, you will be able to submit your profile (if you haven’t already).

Virtual event lobby

After you join a virtual event on Live Events, you will land in the Lobby where you’ll see a welcome message, along with any other details the event organizers chose to show on this page.

Here is an example (the event you are attending may look a little different):

When in the lobby, you’ll see the option to edit your profile. You can also edit it from any screen by clicking the arrow next to your name in the top-right.

Left navigation

On the left is your navigation menu. Key items on the navigation would be the stage(s) and rooms.

Right navigation

Pinned Stage: The event may choose to "pin" a stage to the right sidebar. This will keep the stage and any presentations on it in your view no matter where you are within the event. You can hide and show the stage, as you wish. Select on Hide Video or Watch Video button to toggle the pinned stage.

If the event has multiple stages, you can access the other stages in the left sidebar.

Rooms

You can access rooms through the left sidebar. After viewing the list of available rooms, simply select the room you wish to join. When you are in a room, you'll be able to chat with others in the room in the right hand sidebar.

When on the chat tab, you'll see Room highlighted - you are chatting within that room only. You can easily switch to see the full event chat by selecting the Event tab.

Rooms can be unmoderated or moderated. If a room is moderated and you'd like to join the discussion via your microphone / camera, you'll need to request to join. The moderator can approve or deny your request.

Chat, People, Polls, and Q&A

In your right sidebar, you'll see a red notification when:

  • You receive a new message from a person or in a general chat room
  • A new poll is posted
  • A new question is asked

In the right sidebar, you can also access the following sections:

  • Chat - This is where you can chat with other attendees at the event
  • People - This is a list of other attendees at the event. Click on a person to view their profile and send them a private message.
  • Polls - This is a list of polls created by the event organizers. Poll results are updated in real time as people vote.
  • Q&A - Submit any questions you have for the event organizers. Answers appear in real time.

Frequently asked questions

Will chats be saved after the event?

No. Once the event is over, you won't be able to access information from the event. Please note any important chats as you won’t be able to access chat messages after the event.
