Donation matching

Before you start

For other matching options, see our articles on Double the Donation and Amply.

Donation matching occurs when a sponsor—company or individual—agrees to match your campaign donations for a specific time and/or up to a certain dollar amount. Add a sponsor to your campaigns and show how close you are to their matching deadline and/or limit. Use this information to create a sense of urgency on your donation page and boost donation amounts. Donation matching will apply to donations as well as fundraising pages and teams.

Keep in mind that donation matching is only supported for online donations—purchases of tickets, registrations, and offline donations are not matched. In addition, your organization is responsible for coordinating with the matching sponsor. GoFundMe Pro tracks but does not collect or distribute the matched funds.

Add a sponsor

In your campaign:

  1. Select Details (Settings in a Studio campaign)
  2. Select Donation matching
  3. Select Add sponsor
  4. Fill out the required information
  5. Select Add sponsor again when finished

Once you add a sponsor, you can edit their details anytime. For example, if you want to end a matching period early, edit the end date.

Note: Match multipliers and qualifying minimum donation amounts are only available in Studio campaigns.

Things to know

A sponsor image isn’t required, but we recommend including one. The image displays to the public and helps supporters identify who your donation-matching sponsor is—this helps to build trust.

End a sponsor's matching period

While you normally enter the end date for a sponsor's matching period during setup, you can always edit the end date in case it has changed. You cannot delete a sponsor, but you can edit their End Date to a past date. This ensures matching will no longer be tracked for the sponsor.

The matching period can be limited to a specific end date and/or a matching limit. If an end date and the matching limit are both active, the matching period will end as soon as either the end date or limit is reached.

Adding multiple sponsors

GoFundMe Pro only tracks one matching sponsor during a given matching period. If you have two matching sponsors with overlapping matching periods, transactions and matching donations will only be tracked for the sponsor whose matching period started first.

You can still add more than one sponsor—we simply recommend staggering them. For example, one sponsor can match from Jan 1-31st while the other matches from Feb 1-28th.

What it looks like

An active sponsor is not displayed to donors. As a result, we recommend showcasing matching opportunities and any qualifications on your donation page to inspire donors to give now and increase their impact. For example, highlight a sponsor matching 3x donations or call out that there is a qualifying minimum donation of $25 to be matched to help further motivate your supporters and boost donation sizes.

Donation matches will apply to the progress bar on your campaigns. For example, if you receive a donation of $10 with donation matching, your progress bar will state $20. The matching donation will also appear on your campaign's activity feed.

You can also view your donation matches in a report. In GoFundMe Pro, select Transaction and Transaction History. Then, select All campaigns and select the campaign with donation matches. Donation matches will display the sponsor's name on the Display Name column and be listed as an offline donation.

Live Events

Any donations from paddle raise items or Text-to-Donate in your event will be eligible for a match.

No, you cannot delete a sponsor, but you can edit the End Date to a past date. This ensures matching will no longer be tracked for the sponsor.

Matched donations appear as offline donations in GoFundMe Pro and have the option to be synced to Salesforce like any other offline donation:

Once the Integrations & Webhooks option is selected on the offline donation, use the Data Sync Tool to sync the matched donation. Salesforce will also display a GoFundMe Pro matching sponsor ID for matched gifts.
